A mother was complaining to me about her teenage son.
“He’s not the study type - he hates to study.”
“How come? Is it because he’s lazy, or because he just can’t.”
“He’s just lazy. All he wants to do is to make money.”
The son appeared around that time.
“Well, you don’t need to study to make a living,” I offered my honest opinion.
I’m not sure if the mother was more shocked or horrified.
“Can always be a hawker,” I quickly added.
The mother laughed.
“Son, did you hear that? You can become a hawker if you don’t study!”
Poor kid. And what’s wrong with being a hawker anyway?
oh parents. just like mine. haha! I guess being a hawker’s hardly anybody’s dream job.

Replace the word “hawker” with “chef”… and behold, it is suddenly a respectable “dream” occupation.
(Quirk note: dictionary.com defines “hawker” as a peddler or seller of wares, as opposed to the Singapore definition of street makan entreprenuer … interesting hor? n_n )
