I’ll keep this short.
Those of us who’ve lived in the blogosphere for a while would have seen some blog wars, many of them simply pointless. A recent one reminded of Clay Shirky’s Group as User: Flaming and the Design of Social Software:

P.S. If you’re interested in studying social software, Clay Shirky is a must-read. He’s a smart guy.
I went, “Oh” out loud when I read that quote.
It reminded me of the people who get banned for flouting chat rules in the chatroom of this game I play.
Seriously — these people get warned that they will get banned for spamming or cussing, but they still spammed random letters or immature insults. Some even ask to get banned, i.e. “Mod(erator), ban me!”
I finally came to the conclusion that they craved attention, and would get it any way they can.
