Can’t Speak Mandarin?
Looks like not everyone in China knows Mandarin. In fact, almost half the Chinese population in China don’t know Mandarin (the official figure is 47% in 2004).
Bah.

That explains why I have never been able to comprehend some conversations carried out by Chinese individuals on trains. Some little consolation to myself that perhaps, my command of Chinese is not as bad as others may perceive it to be. (phew?)
