Singapore and the Flying Farangs
I happened to be at Jurong Entertainment Centre today, and somehow decided to pop by the Fuji Ice Palace ice skating rink.
There was a real, ice hockey game going on, complete with uniforms and referees!
People pay good money to watch live tournaments, but this was completely free, in an airconditioned environment, and it was an international tournament!
Singapore (in red) vs the Bankok Flying Farangs.
In the above picture, a Flying Farang had just scored a goal, leaving the Singapore goalie on his knees.
Pretty fun and exciting to watch. And more importantly, it was free.
If I’m not wrong, there’ll be more games tomorrow (3 Feb). Check out the tournament info here.
p.s. if you’re an SPG, this is paradise - all the players are caucasian

They all should be caucasian. ‘Farang’ in Thai is exactly like ‘Ang Moh’ over here.

Oh. My. I was there too around that time too. Some of my friends wanted to go ice-skating.
Hmm wonder if we did pass each other by?

Haha. When I saw the post in my rss reader, I was just thinking that it’d be cool if the game was Singapore Crouching Ang Mohs vs Bangkok Flying Farangs..
and then they could play the Hong Kong Leaping Gwei Los, and the Tokyo Gaijins, and maybe the Phnom Penh Barangs…

yes! there is ice hockey in singapore! You saw 5th annual Singapore Invitational hosted here–i think about 10 teams flew in. The local league has about 150 players; 25-30% locals; and we do have women playing as well. League nights are most Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays. more info at SingaporeIceHockey.com
cheers!
